England vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI Highlights

ason Roy’s century leads England’s course for posting 326 for 7

With his 12th ODI century and second in five innings, Jason Roy gave the top of the order a boost. He and Jos Buttler left Bangladesh needing to chase down 327 runs to avoid losing their first home series since England’s last visit in 2016–17.

Before being bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan for 132 from 124 balls, Roy had hit 18 fours and a six. This outstanding performance included a crucial 109-run partnership with Jos Buttler in 15.3 middle innings overs. Buttler went on to score 76 from 64 in a typically understated display of his skill under challenging circumstances.

Moeen Ali and Sam Curran placed a finishing touch to a relay race of an inning by slamming 75 off 54 balls together as England added a total of 106 in their final ten overs. Together, they covered all of England’s first 44 overs.

The rest of England’s top six scored 24 runs between them on a tacky Mirpur pitch, which belied England’s impressive total. Tamim Iqbal, the captain of Bangladesh, may have been influenced by this possibility when he chose to bowl after winning the toss and challenged England to set the pace with their customarily aggressive batting.

The first three England wickets to fall hinted at the unfavorable nature of the situation. While Malan was helped this time by the addition of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who cracked his third ball for four, as he played back to his second ball to be pinned plumb lbw for 11, Phil Salt, who had only managed three more singles in a 15-ball stay before fencing Taskin low to Najmul Hossain Shanto at slip, was not.
